SKIA Signs Term Sheets for Supplying Medical Imaging AR Education Solution to Indian Hospitals
Medical imaging solutions company SKIA has signed term sheets to supply its augmented reality (AR)-based hospital education solution, SKIA_OPD, to Indian hospitals. SKIA CEO Lee Jong-myeong stated on the 27th, "We have signed term sheets with four major Indian hospitals, including GSL, Rainbow Children's, AIG, and KIMS, and are currently conducting pilot implementations."
SKIA is the first company in the world to develop a markerless AR surgical platform for medical use. Building on this technology, the company created the SKIA_OPD solution, which uses 3D reconstructions of patient medical images to provide detailed patient education. This allows medical professionals to project patient-specific medical data in real-time, helping patients and their families understand pathological conditions, surgical plans, and expected outcomes.
Unlike other extended reality (XR) solutions, SKIA_OPD does not require external markers, making it safer and more versatile in a wide range of clinical settings. The platform is particularly useful for educating patients and their families before surgeries or treatments, enhancing their understanding of the disease progression and treatment processes.
Lee added, "The initial response from the field has been overwhelmingly positive. Over 150 local doctors attended a conference at GSL in India earlier this month, showing significant interest in our technology."
In preparation for its entry into the Indian market, SKIA has established SKIA-INDIA LLP in collaboration with local experts. The company is currently optimizing its AR product line to suit the specific needs of the Indian healthcare market.
The SKIA_OPD solution is slated for release in both South Korea and India, and has already received the CES 2024 Innovation Award.
Meanwhile, SKIA's surgical navigation system, the Stereotactic Navigation System, has completed exploratory clinical trials in South Korea and is expected to begin confirmatory trials next year.
