AR Solutions to Enter Plastic Surgery – SKIA Plans Commercial Launch in Early 2025

AR technology is set to expand into the field of plastic surgery. SKIA has been conducting research on AR-based facial reconstruction surgery guides in collaboration with Asan Medical Center in Seoul since 2021, as part of a research-centered hospital project. Recently, the company announced that it is developing a commercial version of its Facial Fracture Reconstruction AR Solution, with plans for a full release in the first half of next year.

This technology leverages SKIA’s existing capabilities in CT image projection, allowing surgeons to visualize 3D vascular structures. In facial reconstruction cases where one side of the face is collapsed or deformed, the solution can use 3D simulation to create a symmetrical structure, aligning the affected side with the healthy side. It can also model artificial bone implants and provide AR previews of postoperative outcomes.

In addition to this, SKIA is working on a separate project commissioned by the Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital. This project aims to use SKIA’s AR technology to measure the volume of abdominal fat, which is often used in breast reconstruction surgeries for breast cancer patients who have undergone mastectomies.
